AMPAS Announces New Board Members

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the newly elected and re-elected members of its 2023-2024 Board of Governors. The governors will take office at the first board meeting of the new term.

Incumbent governors re-elected this year include VFX maven Rob Bredow. Bredow is the Chief Creative Officer of Industrial Light & Magic and Senior Vice President of Creative Innovation at Lucasfilm, where he oversees the overall creative strategy of both companies. His feature films include Solo: A Star Wars Story, Independence Day, Stuart Little, Surf's Up, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Technology executive Wendy Aylsworth was also re-elected to the board. Aylsworth is a former Walt Disney Imagineer and director of engineering for Walt Disney Feature Animation, and also worked for Warner Brothers' feature animation division in the 1990s.

Among the newly elected board members this year is producer Hitoko Goto, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her work on “Klaus,” “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part,” and “The Little Prince.” Also joining the team is Hanna Minghella, producer of the animated short “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse,” which won an Academy Award last year.

This year's returning governors list includes Bonnie Arnold, producer of “Toy Story” and “How to Train Your Dragon”; Janet Yang, producer of “Over the Moon”; Netflix research director and VFX veteran Paul Debevec (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Oblivion”), and VFX supervisor Marlon West (“Moana,” “Encanto”) from Walt Disney Feature Animation Studios.
