-Leo makes its biggest-ever debut in a Netflix animated film.
Netflix's new Adam Sandler film, "Leo," had the largest debut ever for a Netflix original animated feature in its first six days of availability.
During this period, the film garnered 34.6 million views and a total of 61.7 million hours of viewing. The film was Netflix's No. 1 streamer on its weekly global top 10 list, making it the most-watched title on the service overall. (Netflix defines views as total viewing time divided by total running time.)
Netflix also had the highest number of views of any film on the service.
The largest original animated feature film Netflix has released to date is The Sea Beast, which was viewed for 165 million hours in its first 28 days. If Sandler's grumpy old lizard maintains this pace, Leo could well become the most watched streaming animated title of all time.
Netflix is supporting Leo with a strong marketing campaign that includes free sneak peek theater screenings at 150 locations across the U.S. and a float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Directed by longtime Sandler collaborators Robert Marianetti, Robert Smigel, and David Wachtenheim, Leo received an 82% Rotten Tomatoes critics' rating. The screenplay was written by Smigel, Sandler, and Paul Sade. Animation was done by Animal Logic ("The Lego Movie," "DC League of Super Pets"), which was acquired by Netflix last year.
